The story
Thomas McKeller, a Boston elevator operator, posed for Sargent's MFA murals, where the artist turned him into white gods like Apollo. Sargent never exhibited this nude of him. It vanished for decades until a curator found it in storage at the Boston Athenaeum and bought it for the MFA in 1986.
