The story

Rodin drew these lovers among the motifs that grew out of his illustrations to Dante. The sheet passed through a 1915 Frankfurt auction to the Copenhagen collector Helge Jacobsen, who gave it to the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek in 1927.
