The story

Mitsutani painted this reclining nude in 1912, just back from a second stay in Europe paid for by the Kurashiki industrialist Magosaburō Ōhara, whose museum keeps it today. In Paris he had restarted his drawing training from the basics, and Post-Impressionism was pushing his style toward Symbolism.
