The story
The navy bathhouse stood on Skeppsholmen, where soldier prostitution was rife and Stockholm's bathhouses were known through scandals as places where men had sex with men. In the 1960s the Thiel Gallery took the painting down, and scholars still debate whether it shows vitalist health or homoerotic desire.
