The story

Painted around 1887 in Ralli's Paris studio, the kiss is thoroughly modern, a man in bowler hat and lounge suit pressing his lips to the neck of a woman in a high collar and decorated toque. It sold at Christie's in 1996 for 23,000 dollars.
