The story

Courbet showed The Wrestlers at the 1853 Salon beside his divisive Bathers, and wrote home that he had covered the wrestlers' nudity. The Hungarian collector Ferenc Hatvany bought it in 1908 and later acquired Courbet's L'Origine du monde too.
