The story

Natoire drew this nude as a study for Psyche in The Toilet of Psyche, now in the New Orleans Museum of Art. It was one of four canvases the tax farmer Louis-Denis de La Live de Bellegarde commissioned in the mid-1730s for the salon of a newly acquired house.
