The story

Reni borrowed the pose from Michelangelo's Rebellious Slave. Once owned by the Dukes of Hamilton, this version shows the left hand and a smaller loincloth than his other Sebastians, which hang in Bologna, Madrid, Paris and Puerto Rico.
