The story

Dug up on Rome's Palatine Hill in 1775, this marble copies a lost Greek Leda attributed to Timotheos, known through more than two dozen copies. Restorers in the 1700s rebuilt her arms and the swan's head and gave her an ancient head taken from a statue of Venus.
