The story

Bought for Tsar Nicholas I as a Leonardo, it was later credited to Solari, Giampietrino and Luini before scholars settled on his pupil Melzi. A 2019 cleaning showed that her robe, long seen as green under yellowed varnish, was pure ultramarine.
