The story
Géricault drew The Kiss around his self-funded trip to Italy in 1816 and 1817, when he filled sheets with erotic scenes of satyrs, nymphs and mortal couples. The sheet later belonged to Richard Wallace and Norton Simon before entering the Thyssen collection in 1973.
