The story

In 1636 Philip IV of Spain commissioned Rubens to fill the Torre de la Parada, his hunting lodge near Madrid, with scenes from Ovid. Gowy was one of the Antwerp painters who worked from Rubens's designs, and here he changed the master's design only slightly.
